The above quote describes Spud's peep on page nine of the book I've been reading most of the day, logically titled Spud after the main character, whose peep is the subject of much discussion in the book as well as the source of Spud's nickname...his actual name is johnny milton. (Paradise Lost references abound)
The book, which I have read (and loved) before, is by this South African guy who went to the same boarding school as my dad and all my cousins and wrote a book about a boarding school - dk how fictional it is..but it is hellishly funny. I usually don't like funny books, but this is worth the lols.
Anyway, Spud is named Spud at the boarding school because when he goes the two prefects are inspecting all the new boys' penors (i guess this is du rigeur at boarding schools, idk)and since Johnny's balls haven't dropped and because his penor looks like a runty silkworm with an eating disorder, he is re-christened Spud.
Spud's adventures are chronicled via his diary, which is written with this unintentionally irreverent sincerity that makes for great lols and an entertaining book, despite being both funny and written in diary-entry form. I plan to include some gut wrenchingly hilarious moments from the novel AND attempt to include some of SPud's writing style into my own blog after that..we shall see if it is successful!
