accidents

AHH so, like a month..or two?..ago, my stupid brother was in the stupid parking lot at his stupid school and was allegedly in the car, paying attention, while his friend Mary proceeded to back her much larger car right into Nathan, apparently while he was honking the horn. Like an idiot, he looked at the damage and assumed there was none, since he either needed to get home and do something else, is actually that clueless about cars, or had some other mysterious sixteen-year-old boy agenda. So he tells Mary it's no big deal and that she can just go home. He comes home and says that the door makes a funny noise when you open it. I went out to check the car and almost immediately saw two dents toward the front - which Nathan hadn't even mentioned and claimed not to have noticed. FALSE. And once I opened the driver's side door, it was pretty clear that she had knocked it off its hinge in one place, or else bent the hinge mechanism, and I came in to tell my mom that I thought the whole door would have to be replaced and that I estimated at least a thousand dollars in damages, if she was lucky. She being Mary, of course, since naturally her family should pay for the damages she inflicted on Nathan's stationary car. WELL. the car went to the fixing place, and my parents submitted the 1500 bill slip (who's the boss?) however it is that you're supposed to send it to them to get them to pay the insurance bill. WELL. My mom hadn't heard from Mary's parents until now, which is kind of a long time to deal with something that's a little embarrassing and also totally your fault. and NOW - as in RIGHT NOW - lori just came in to tell me that Mr. Funk (That's Mary's dad, that's their real last name) is coming over to "discuss the insurance claim". She was all agitated and self-righteous and came in to tell me that he's clearly disputing it and she just thought I should know. And now he is in my driveway! Probably just coming to drop the check off...but maybe there will be a battle!
